On Monday the 6th May, the 21st annual Met Gala took place at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. Most known for its yearly variation in theme, this year was no exception, with the theme being ‘Camp: Notes on Fashion’. Previous themes have included 2018’s ‘Heavenly Bodies’, 2016’s ‘Manus x Machina’ a tribute to technology within fashion, and 2011’s acknowledgement to Alexander McQueen who died in 2010.
Since 2015, Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief: Anna Wintour has chaired the event, but each year honorary hosts are announced, with this year’s including Lady Gaga, Harry Styles and Serena Williams.
Declared to be ‘fashion’s biggest night out’, notable outfits came from Lady Gaga and her five different takes on ‘camp’ designed by Brandon Maxwell and rapper: Cardi B whose Thom Browne dress cost in excess of $500,000 and took 2,000 hours to make by 35 different people.
